Based on the Alessandro Baricco’s novel this is the story of a married silkworm smuggler, Herve Joncour, in 19th Century France who travels to Japan to collect his clandestine cargo. While trying to hide, he meets Karen, who resisted to leave the old church she has been restoring for eight months. She thinks he is a looter, and calls the cops to bring him in. But as the Sheriff finds out about that much cash in a situation like this, he radios his old pal Hank, up at the dam…

Louie’s father is the real boss, and he has no intention of paying for the repairs. This leaves Louie to live in the squaller his tenants endure all year round.
